Dr. Schilling Honored by Rep. Steel as a Woman of Distinction

Cypress College President JoAnna Schilling, Ph.D., was honored this morning by Congresswoman Michelle Steel as a 2023 Woman of Distinction in the 45th Congressional District. Dr. Schilling was one of 19 women honored at the ceremony, which was held at the La Palma Community Center.

The recognition included a certificate from the U.S. House of Representatives, which reads: “In honor of your extraordinary accomplishments in our community. Thank you for empowering, uplifting, and encouraging our next generation of women leaders.”

In presenting the award, Rep. Steel noted several of the college’s achievements during Dr. Schilling’s tenure as Cypress College’s 12th president.

Re-elected to Congress in November, Rep. Steel’s district now includes the City of Cypress. The congresswoman recently toured campus to learn more about the college, our students, and our needs.

The 45th Congressional District includes the cities of Fountain Valley, Westminster, Garden Grove, Cypress, Buena Park, Cerritos, Artesia, La Palma, Placentia, Hawaiian Gardens, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, and parts of Brea, Lakewood, Fullerton, and Yorba Linda.
