Why should I meet the priority deadline?

Completing the FAFSA or CADAA by the priority deadline helps two-fold.

First, this year, April 2 is the California priority deadline for Cal Grant, a California-specific financial aid allocation that does not need to be paid back. There are also some other grants with limited funding that are awarded based on need in the order we receive financial aid applications.

Second, submitting your financial aid application sooner allows for earlier processing times to avoid delays in receiving aid.

What happens if I can’t complete the FAFSA or CADAA by the priority deadline?

You can still apply for federal aid at Cypress College through the end of the academic year provided you are still enrolled. If you plan to take classes in the fall semester at any California college or university, we highly encourage you to complete your financial aid application on or before April 2, 2025.

Where do I go if I have a question about FAFSA, CADAA, or the financial aid process?

Visit us in the Cypress College Financial Aid Office on the 1st floor of CCCPLX near the Student Center. We are also available remotely (phone, live chat via Cranium Café, or email) during office hours to assist you as quickly as possible. Please remember to include your student ID number in your message (or bring your photo ID if visiting in person). We’re happy to help!

The Financial Aid Office will also be hosting three hands-on financial aid labs in March. Click here for more details and to register. You must register in order to attend one of these labs.

Why was the financial aid priority deadline extended this year?

The California Student Aid Commission released a statement indicating that because of the two-month delay to the start of the 2025-26 financial aid application cycle due to delays with the Better FAFSA, “The reduced time for students to apply for financial aid has resulted in fewer students completing aid applications relative to prior years due to extenuating circumstances beyond their control.”
