Spring break starts next week; no classes will be held March 30 to April 3 for the spring recess. In addition, campus and online services will be closed March 31 and April 3. Take that well-earned break, Chargers!

Spring Transfer Fair

The annual spring Transfer Fair is almost here, with 45 universities confirmed to attend. This is a great opportunity to meet with representatives from public/private universities to learn about programs, services, and resources. Attendance verification available.

When: April 9, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m

Active Shooter Drill

Cypress College Campus Safety will conduct a test of the emergency alert system using an Active Shooter scenario. Participants will use Run – Hide – Fight to shelter in place: Run to get away from an attacker and call for help; Hide if you cannot evacuate, locking doors and turning off lights; Fight as a last resort to disrupt or stop an attacker. During the exercise, three alerts will be sent over a 15‑minute period:

  • First Alert: Notification of this test, of an active shooter on campus, and instructions to shelter in place using Run – Hide – Fight.
  • Second Alert: Notification that the shooter has been contained, with instructions to continue sheltering in place.
  • Final Alert: Notification that it is safe to resume normal activities.

Library Author Talks

Attend a virtual reading via the Cypress College Library during two upcoming Library Author Talks.  First, log on to hear Rehab: America’s Failed Response to the Opioid Crisis with Author Shoshana Walter and Special Guest Host Barbara Kingsolver. Then, listen to On a Mission: The History of US Women Astronauts with Smithsonian Curator Emerita Valerie Neal.

Dr. Giovanni Hortua Vargas Lecture

In Metal … and Punk … We Trust: Power Chords, Resistance, and Rebellion in Las Americas! is a lecture by Ethnic Studies professor Dr. Giovanni Hortua. Join to hear Dr. Gio discuss music and rebellion in North and South America.

Caring Campus Table

What’s blue and gold and caring all over? The Caring Campus table! Students can stop by for supplies like pens and lanyards on April 7, which falls halfway through the spring semester classes and right at the start of the second 8-week courses.

Planetarium Show

Students, employees, and guests can watch the Planetarium show “Birth of Planet Earth,” which examines how Earth became a living planet following the solar system’s early formation, and the potential of finding other Earth-like worlds. Note: The show begins on time, no late entries; doors open 15 minutes before show; no reentries after exiting; all attendees must be over 5 years old. Price: $12 general admission; $6 for NOCCCD employees and students, children, and seniors. Get tickets here.

Art Shows

The Art Department invites the campus to two exhibitions that transform adversity into creativity, connection, and meaning. First, BLUE VIBRATIONS showcases the work of Mila Gokham; second, RESILIENCE highlights the work of Sara DeSmet, Alexia Kutzner, Maria Fuster, Eliza Pfister, and Licia Wise, all artists and art therapists.
