Cypress College Speech & Debate Represents at Phi Rho Pi Nationals

Three cheers for Cypress Forensics! The Speech and Debate team was hard at work last week in Bethesda, MD, competing at the Phi Rho Pi National Championship Tournament for Community Colleges. Seven students competed against over 50 different community colleges across the country in both debate and individual events. Our students competed over five days of competition and brought home three national awards.

One of our students deserves special recognition: Bianca Alcantara was awarded the prestigious Warren-Dahlin Student Fellowship Award. One student per region is presented with the award for the outstanding student at the National Tournament exhibiting the finest qualities of fellowship, camaraderie, and kindness within forensics. We are so incredibly proud of Bianca.

Below are the students who earned national accolades:

  • Bianca Alcantara: Silver-International Public Debate
  • Fiaz Ganie: Bronze-International Public Debate
  • Aidan Kunze: Bronze-Prose Interpretation

We are so proud of all our student competitors!

Cypress College looks forward to supporting new competitors next weekend at the PSCFA Cool Off tournament hosted on our campus.
