Exhibition Openings Celebrate Cypress College’s 60th Anniversary
The opening of three art exhibitions on Thursday, October 1, 2026, helped celebrate Cypress College’s 60th anniversary. The galleries share the college’s history, historical campus art, and the work of our photography alumni and current students.
In the Cypress College Art Gallery, “When We Were Very Young” looks at the earliest years of Cypress College through the lens of its sporting achievements, art collections, and distinctive architecture. It features artworks, films, objects, and stories drawn from the college archives maintained by Monica Doman and curated by Janet Owen Driggs.
Gallery visitors can also pick up the new pamphlet about Library Mural. The document is produced to commemorate the work and is authored by Owen Driggs, incorporating her scholarly research.
The Cypress College Photography Club invites everyone to ART-OFFICIAL, a celebration of the many ways our photography community expresses itself through art. With no single theme or required style, ART-OFFICIAL creates an open space for experimentation, expression, and work that feels true to each individual artist. From digital and film photography to alternative processes, the exhibition highlights the diversity of artistic expression that makes our photography community unique.
Finally, the Cypress Photography Department is excited to present “Together Again for the First Time (Volume 1),” an exhibition featuring alumni from the Cypress College Photography Department. Many of these former students have furthered their education by transferring to complete their bachelor’s degrees, while others have started their own businesses or practices. Although some of them crossed paths during their studies, this exhibition showcases new work and brings them together in the same space for the first time.
Cypress College Campus Podcast Returns to Celebrate 60th Anniversary
The Cypress College Campus Podcast rebooted last month as part of the 60th anniversary celebration.
The podcast is a monthly show hosted by Cypress College President Dr. Scott W. Thayer and produced by the Office of Campus Communications. It tells the stories of the campus community, including students, colleagues, alumni, and advocates.
It is available on platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.
On Episode 6 of the podcast, Dr. Thayer interviews art historian, curator, and Cypress College art history professor Janet Owen Driggs. They discuss the history and preservation of Sergio O’Cadiz’s iconic Library Mural, exploring its connections to Mexican muralism, brutalist architecture, and the role of public art in shaping the identity of Cypress College.
Episode 7 introduces Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist Isaac “Dazer” Dazerok, founder of Pseudonym Collective. He discusses his journey as an artist, the history and culture of graffiti, the evolution of West Coast letterform design, and the skills and identity developed through writing. Also, he shares his creative process and reflects on his recent collaboration with Cypress College administrators to create artwork celebrating the college’s 60th anniversary.

Cypress College Launches New Admissions Experience with CCCStart
Cypress College became one of the first group of California Community Colleges across the state to transition from CCCApply to CCCStart, a new admissions experience designed to clarify the enrollment process and make it easier to navigate for incoming students. The new CCCStart launched on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 as part of Wave 1 of the state effort to reimagine how students begin their journey in the California Community Colleges.
This new entry experience replaces the prior application process. It is designed to simplify the application process, reduce confusion, improve how students identify their educational goals, and create a more modern, student-centered experience.
What is new about CCCStart?
- The entry experience is mobile-friendly and easier to complete
- Application questions are more intuitive and more personalized
- Students’ free OpenCCC account carries personal information from one college to another, so there is to need to re-enter everything when applying to more than one college
- CCCStart uses fewer, smarter questions that are connected to an individual student’s goals
- You may notice a transition to the word “Start” instead of “Apply.” Cypress College is an open-access college, which means there is no application. When you complete the “CCCStart” process, you are beginning the enrollment process
Who Will This Transition Impact?
This change will only impact new and prospective students who have yet to apply to the college. Those who are already Cypress College students and those who have already applied will not observe the change.
