About Professor Politanoff
Hello! I am Ashton Politanoff, and I have been teaching at Cypress College since 2019. In addition to teaching college level writing and critical thinking, I also teach a number of creative writing courses. I am also the co-advisor for the Creative Guild Club, a student-run organization that creates community around creative writing—all are welcome!
Additionally, I co-advise Sole Image, the English Department’s literary journal. Lastly, I am also the author of two works of fiction—”Dad Had a Bad Day” published in 2026, and “You’ll Like it Here” published in 2022. I hope to see you in one of my classes!
Student & Department Involvement: I am the co-advisor of the Creative Guild Club, and Sole Image, the English Department’s Literary Journal.
Why I Teach: The feedback, advice, and encouragement of my own professors still echo in my mind some twenty plus years later. This impact has inspired me to help others. I hope to pass on my passion of writing and the power of the written word to all students.
Fun Fact: I played competitive tennis growing up.
