Evelyn Gámez, B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Evelyn Gámez (GAH-mehs) an instructor of Spanish at Cypress College since Fall 2025. She is passionate about helping students realize the power in their language. Before joining our college, she taught Spanish at UC Davis, where she completed both her Ph.D. and M.A. in Spanish with an emphasis in Linguistics. She completed her B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics at UC Riverside. 

At Cypress College, she recommends students take Spanish for Spanish Speakers 201 and 202. These courses are specifically tailored for bilingual speakers who grew up speaking Spanish at home and learned English in school. The Spanish for Spanish Speakers curriculum allows students to learn a little bit of everything: history of Spanish in California, the impact of bilingual education, and the identity of Latinos and Hispanics in the U.S. She also recommends studying abroad because it exposes you to different ways of living and nourishes curiosity. 

In addition to teaching Spanish, Dr. Evelyn Gámez hosts workshops for parents to involve them in their student’s academic journey.
