About Professor Le Cornet

Karen Le Cornet is a Professor of French and Spanish in the Foreign Language Department at Cypress College. She is a Language Arts Division academic senator, a co-advisor for the Spanish Club, and a member of the Zero Textbook-Cost Faculty Workgroup.

Le Cornet has been a full-time faculty member since fall 2019. She has created two Foreign Language Certificates (Elementary and Intermediate level) with her colleague, Mihoko Luther. Additionally, Le Cornet created a “French Culture Through Cinema Course” that will be offered in spring 2025 and coordinates the World Language Preview Day. She is currently working on an OER textbook for the first-year Spanish program. As a former community college student herself, she believes in the college’s commitment to equity, access and eliminating barriers to our students’ educational success.

Prior to becoming full-time, Le Cornet was an adjunct instructor and taught language and cinema courses at Chaffey College, Cypress College, and Mt. SAC as well as advanced French writing and culture at the University of Redlands. She was also an English Teaching Assistant for TAPIF, a program run by the French Ministry of Education. She wrote French and Spanish Directed Learning Activities for Chaffey’s Language Success Center. Her textbook revisions and work have been published in Mt. SAC’s Liberté 1 (2017) and UT Austin’s OER textbook, Français Interactif (2010).

Le Cornet received her M.A. in French from the University of Texas, Austin. She received her B.A.’s in French Linguistics and Spanish Linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles. She also holds a DALF, a French language diploma in France.
