Understand the past and reflect on the present during the college’s Cypress@50, Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusiveness: The Conversation Continues… celebration of Black History Month.
A series of events are scheduled throughout February, focusing on key conversations like black identity and racial inequality. We urge students and the campus community to embrace diversity, foster individuality, and encourage a variety of perspectives and opinions through supportive dialogue.
Events are sponsored by the Legacy Program, the Language Arts Division, Associated Students, and Student Equity.
Black Hair: What are the Social & Cultural Implications

This symposium examines whether the definition of “natural” dilutes an important cultural distinction between Afrocentric and Eurocentric hair practices.
13th, Documentary and Discussion

“13th” is a documentary that examines the historical, political and sociological aspects of racial inequality and mass incarceration.
Mothers of the Movement
Date & Time: Thursday, February 23 at 6:30-9 p.m.

The Mothers of the Movement (MOTM) is rooted in Black Lives Matter. MOTM consists of mothers who have lost a son to police violence. In this symposium, local MOTM will share their stories of pain, coping and healing.
InterACT & Free Expression

InterACT is a nationally renowned social justice performance troupe based out of California State University, Long Beach. Free Expression is an open mic-style event. Express yourself through dance, poetry, music and art.
