Dr. Schilling is Woman of the Year for 67th Assembly District
Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva announced today that Cypress College President JoAnna Schilling, Ph.D. is the 2023 Woman of the Year from the 67th Assembly District — which includes Cypress College. Dr. Schilling will be recognized on the floor of the Assembly on March 20 with women across California.
Quirk-Silva will make a more-formal announcement around that time.
Schilling has been President at Cypress College since 2017. Under her leadership, Cypress College was ranked as the #1 community college in California in 2018 and 2020 by Niche.com and was named a national Top 150 community college by the Aspen Institute in 2022. The college was named an Equity Champion of Excellence in 2021 and 2022 for its work assisting first generation and Latinx students achieve degrees and certificates, and Cypress’ overall awarding of degrees and certificates has increased by 57% in the last three years.
In 2021 Cypress College successfully opened a new Veterans Resource Center, and Science, Engineering and Math Building with Measure J funding, supported by our community in 2016.
