First Women Empowerment Gala Celebrates Strength, Resilience, Achievement
The first Women Empowerment Gala took place adjacent to the Veterans Resource Center on the evening of Thursday, March 21, 2024. Held as part of Women’s History Month, the event celebrated the strength, resilience, and achievements of women from all walks of life.
The event featured a performance of the National Anthem by Brianna Rios, welcoming addresses by President Dr. Scott W. Thayer, vice presidents Dr. Paul de Dios and Dr. Kathleen Reiland, and VRC Counselor Esmeralda Martin. Guest Speakers included Ashley Ross, a Cypress College alumna, and Maria Buffo, director of the Citrus College Veterans Resource Center.
“At the heart of our mission lies the belief that every woman deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of her background or circumstances,” said Adriana Duran, a VRC employee whose role includes supporting women who use the center. “Through events like the Women Empowerment Gala, we aim to foster a community where women are empowered to pursue their dreams, overcome obstacles, and achieve their full potential.”
The Women Empowerment Gala was presented by the Cypress College Veterans Resource Center and the Extended Opportunity Program & Services office in support of the VRC’s Women’s Unity Group.
