FAFSA Delays Could Affect Students

The U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday that some updates to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will not occur as planned this year. This has led to processing delays and could affect financial aid for fall semester enrollment.

The Department had planned to roll out a batch institutional correction function (accessible only to financial aid offices, not students) to automatically process applications selected for verification or those with a special or unusual circumstance appeal. Instead of reviewing each individual application, the batch corrections function would allow financial aid workers nationwide to process multiple corrections at once.

This week’s announcement means the functionality will not be available to financial aid workers for the 2024-2025 academic year, and will significantly impact processing times. In response to this development, the Cypress College Financial Aid office has provided the following information for students:

Notice: Due to significant delays from the Department of Education with FAFSA processing for the 2024-2025 academic year, your financial aid may be postponed. This affects both FAFSA and California Dream Act applicants.

Additionally, there may be other errors that are currently unknown to our office, which could further affect your financial aid process.

Our office is here to support you. Contact us for assistance or updates through in-person visits, Cranium Café, email, or phone. We’re here to help!
