Cypress College Fashion Club Makes News

A recent show by the Cypress College Fashion Club was covered by the Orange County Register, bringing attention to this student-led group and the show’s mission.
Earlier this month, during a night of exhibits from Visual and Performing Arts students, Fashion Club president Freya Pineda and fellow students walked a runway outside the campus art gallery, wearing pieces by student designers. Freya’s goal, she told the Register, was to showcase cultural identities and highlight the way fashion serves to communicate.
“It has become an outlet for self-expression,” Freya told the news organization. “To let someone know you’re the kind of person you are without orally explaining or going into detail on your identity.”
She particularly wanted to give a means of expression to LGTBQ+ community members and people of color and to ensure that “a lot of the narratives being told are given back to those experiencing those narratives,” Freya told the Register.
Freya studies Journalism at Cypress and serves on the Cypress Chronicle as the magazine editor.
