Now Arriving: VAPA Students at John Wayne

Student dancers line up and raise their arms as part of their dance.

Visual and Performing Arts students sang and danced at John Wayne Airport in Orange County earlier this month as part of “The Collective Self,” a show featuring student artwork and photography.

The live performances took place near the photo and art exhibits in the baggage claim areas of sections A and B on a Friday morning. Travelers walking to and from gates or awaiting their luggage took in the show, pausing during their busy schedules for the break from the norm.

Maha Afra introduced the show, which started with a dance by a troupe she directed. They performed multiple times, interspersed with song performances from fellow students.

Choral students, led by Bradley Hampton, sang several numbers, including “Here Comes the Rain Again.” The 30-minute show ended with a group performance by both VAPA student groups.

“The Collective Self” is free, open to the public, and will run until August 31.
