Auto Collision Repair Program Lauded by Industry News

An article in Auto Body News recently praised Cypress College’s Auto Collision Repair Program for successfully training a new generation of workers.
In the piece, Department Chair Larry Ramos speaks at length about his and other instructors’ work to encourage future technicians. The interviewer begins the article by pointing out a search for “skilled talent … among independent body shops and MSOs,” noting the college’s work to fill this need.
“They’re only going to be more valuable to the shop that they’re working for,” Ramos said in the story, referring to the program’s work to keep certification and support students with I-CAR classes and adhering to National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence standards. “It also gives the shop more credibility.”
Former student Edgar Mendoza was highlighted in the article for his exceptional hard work. Instructor Toby Chess, who coordinates with employers to support students on their career plans, recommended Mendoza for his first job at a highly regarded shop. Although the shop was not looking for new workers, Mendoza was hired, and put to the test. His supervisor felt impress by how far ahead of most young people who enter the field, and credited Cypress College with that foundational training.
