Speech & Debate Team Place 9th in Last Tournament of Semester
The Cypress Speech & Debate team was busy this weekend competing at the PSCFA Fall Championships tournament. Cypress competed at Mount San Antonio College in Parliamentary Debate, International Public Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, and eight different Individual Speech Events. Cypress placed ninth overall in the Community College division. Students competed against a combination of 36 universities and community colleges, including UCLA, UC Santa Barbera, UC San Diego, San Diego State University, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, and Point Loma Nazarene University.
We had 23 students compete across three days of competition. We commend the students for being able to balance studying for finals and showing up for a fierce competition.
On Saturday, Cypress College’s Pre-Law Society saw all of its charter members (who are also members of the Speech & Debate Team) advance to elimination rounds and receive medals in IPDA debate.

Although Bianca Alcantara and Faiz Gaine didn’t advance to elimination rounds, they fought hard and ended with an even win/loss record.

Co-directors of Forensics, Jen Page and Justin Perkins, along with coaches Kelly Hutchison, Zach White, and Abe Nesheiwat, noted how proud they were of the Speech & Debate team.
