Know Your Rights

Cypress College, the North Orange County Community College District, and the California Community Colleges remain steadfast in our commitment to diversity and inclusivity. We proudly welcome students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and we will continue to support and protect all members of our communities. California represents a beacon of hope for so many, and we stand ready to support our state and its people as we move forward together.

Below are several services and links to help members our campus community connect to resources and to know their rights.

Resources for Undocumented Students

California’s community college system is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and ensuring equal access to excellent higher education for all individuals. Students without documentation demonstrate remarkable bravery, adaptability, and ingenuity in pursuing their educational goals. These students often balance their studies with employment to cover educational costs and provide for their families. Many have deep roots in California, with the majority of their education – from elementary through high school – taking place within the United States.

In support of our Undocumented Students, the NOCCCD Office of Diversity, Culture, and Inclusion will be hosting a two-part series titled “Understanding Undocumented Students & Family Communities.”

Programs

These programs are here to ensure that students have the opportunity to succeed, no matter their background or circumstances. Please encourage students to reach out and take advantage of these services. Our team is dedicated to providing the support needed to help students achieve their educational and personal goals.

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS)

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE)
CARE serves single parents who are EOPS students and are receiving public assistance (CalWORKs/TANF). We offer financial support, counseling, and workshops designed to help students balance their academic, personal, and family responsibilities.

NextUp/Guardian Scholars Program
NextUp and Guardian Scholars is designed to assist current and former foster youth in achieving their educational goals. The program offers additional services, including meal cards, transportation assistance, and access to mental health resources, ensuring students have the support they need to succeed.

CalWORKs
CalWORKs provides career and educational opportunities for students receiving public assistance. We assist with childcare, work-study placements, academic counseling, and workshops, empowering students to achieve their educational and career aspirations while fulfilling their welfare-to-work requirements.
