MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) is a program at Cypress College designed to provide enriching experiences and foster a deeper appreciation for students in calculus-based majors.

Cypress College is proud to be one of the many community colleges across the state of California to provide student support in collaboration with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the MESA Program, prospective students must meet the following criteria:

  • Intend to transfer to a 4-year institution
  • Be a U.S. citizen, resident, or AB 540/DACA
  • Be eligible for financial aid
  • First in the family to graduate college within the U.S.
  • Declare a calculus-based major in math, science, or engineering*
  • Good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Currently enrolled in MATH 142 C or above
  • Enrolled in at least 1 STEM course per semester at Cypress College

*The following majors are eligible (Calculus-based):


Program Benefits:

  • Assistance with the transfer process
  • Book loan program and complimentary Scantrons and Blue Books
  • Priority in being selected for Cal Poly Pomona for the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Program
  • Priority registration after successfully completing the first semester in the program
  • Opportunity to participate in organized study sessions to improve overall GPA
  • STEM/MESA Center for individual/group study
  • Academic advising through our STEM/MESA counselors
  • STEM-focused success workshops
  • Specialized MESA conferences & student retreats
  • Student Leadership opportunities

Program Requirements:

  • Complete (1) mandated counseling appointment with MESA counselor
  • Complete (3) hours of a study group session
    • CHEM, MATH or PHYS
  • Apply for (1) Scholarship, Research or Internship opportunity

Accepting applications for MESA spring 2024 until February 2, 2024.

MESA applications submitted by February 2, 2024 will be reviewed by February 9, 2024.
