Presidential Scholars of Distinction, Kylie Christensen, Fine Arts

Kylie is a dance major and was selected as the Presidential Scholar of Distinction for the Fine Arts Division at Cypress College. She found a passion for music and the performing arts at a young age, and discovered that it gave her something positive to focus on after the untimely passing of her mother from breast cancer. In high school, she was a member of Sound FX, a national championship show choir, where she had the opportunity to travel across the country and perform at prestigious venues, including Lincoln Center and the Grand Ole Opry.

After high school, Kylie was accepted into a performing arts college, but couldn’t afford the tuition, so she made the decision to attend Cypress College instead. She started as a music major, then switched to dance and psychology after her first semester. Following her graduation this year, she plans to complete a second associate degree in psychology before transferring to pursue her bachelor’s degree. Kylie ultimately hopes to earn a master’s degree in dance and become a college-level dance instructor.

“I want to choreograph and direct concerts to continue to bring the love of the arts to audiences and performers,” she said. “The arts are what got me through the toughest times in my life, and I want to share that with the world!”
