3 Career Questions to Ask Yourself Now
#Majors2Careers | You’ve been working hard – class, books, papers, projects… But have you thought about where all of this is leading? What can you imagine yourself doing day-in, day-out after you graduate?
That’s a big question. And who really knows for certain nowadays? There are so many unconventional career paths and so many career shifts along the way. So let’s break things up a bit. Here are three questions with a few subpoints that you might spend a moment or two reflecting on before you, say, take another accounting class that you’re not too thrilled about.

1. What am I good at?
** To help you answer this question, take out a piece of paper and jot down a few points related to the following:
- What skills have helped you thrive?
- What made you stand out as a child?
- What compliments do you tend to ignore? (These are your unique strengths; build on them!)
2. What am I passionate about?
- What issues interest you?
- What do you like working with, i.e. people, machines, data, animals, ideas, etc.?
3. What do I like to do?
- Time flows when we’re in a “zone.” What activities make you lose track of time?
- What makes you feel strong?

These are important questions to start thinking about now while you’re a student, rather than years into a field that just isn’t right for you. There are careers out there that are! Really. And there are resources and tools to help you figure out which line up best for you given your unique personality, background, interests, and goals. In fact, you’re at one of the very best places to help you do so, and to move you on to your most fulfilling path.
