Description/Purpose/ChargeThe purpose of the Sustainability Committee focuses on helping Cypress College conceptualize, create, and implement campus- wide initiatives to enhance a culture of ecological balance, in which the entire campus community is aware of, engaged in, and committed to advancing sustainability through education, activities, improved infrastructure and operations, and community partnerships.
Reporting Relationships  The Sustainability Committee makes recommendations to PAC, PBC and to the executive leadership team of the college.
Decision-Making Authority  The committee has the authority to plan sustainability events, and make recommendations to PAC, PBC, and to the executive leadership team of the college.
Membership CompositionThe Sustainability Committee is open to faculty, staff, students, and administrators interested in improving the sustainability efforts for the campus.

Terms of Membership  Representation is ongoing and currently open to all.
Membership Process  The membership process is open-ended to include all interested members of the campus community.
Meeting Dates/Times  The Sustainability Committee meets the third Monday from 3–4 p.m. The Committee meetings may be cancelled and/or added depending on agenda items.
Meeting ProceduresPrior to meetings, the facilitator sends out both a reminder and asks for agenda items.

Meeting notes are taken during the meeting and posted to the
committee’s website.
Consensus Process, Decision-Making, and DocumentationThe Sustainability Committee uses consensus as its voting method. When there is dissension, the committee members make all attempts to work out their differences, and discussion typically continues until consensus is achieved. Consensus means that either everyone shows thumbs up, or all Sustainability Committee members agree to move forward on the topic despite the lack of full consensus.

Communication and Distribution of MaterialsThe Sustainability Committee will ensure the timely and accessible documentation of its activities and outputs, including essential discussion points and action items, and will distribute these documents to the committee’s website for easy access.
