DegreeWorks is a planning tool designed to help you and your counselor:

  • View a complete list of courses required for your program and specific degree or certificate requirements.
  • Track your major, *GPA, catalog year, and completed or in-progress courses.
  • View courses that are required for your major and GE patterns.
  • See which courses have been transferred or applied to your program.

This tool helps you stay on track to graduate, transfer, or earn a certificate in a timely and efficient manner. You can access DegreeWorks 24/7 through myGateway (type DegreeWorks in the search bar).

*In your student view block, you’ll see your overall GPA — this includes all the classes you’ve taken at the college plus any transfer credits applied to your major through the Admissions and Records process. You’ll also notice another GPA at the top of your major block. That one shows your GPA for just your major courses.

Do I still need to see a Counselor?

YES! DegreeWorks is an online tool, but it does not replace your counselor. Your counselor can:

  • Create a personalized Ed Plan tailored to your goals and academic needs.
  • Help you navigate complex situations like transferring, changing majors, or balancing part-time/full-time status.
  • Leave important notes in DegreeWorks – check them regularly!
  • Counselors and students see and share the same information in real time to allow for better and more efficient advising sessions.

Tips and Common Misunderstandings

  • Degree Works is an advising tool and NOT an official transcript.
  • “In progress” coursework doesn’t count toward completion until grades are posted.
  • Some substitutions, waivers or exceptions may not appear until processed by Admissions and Records.
