This discussion and presentation will take a deep dive into the linguistic, ideological, and cultural categorization of “Caste” laid out in Isabel Wilkerson’s, “Caste”: The Origins of Our Discontent” (2020). It is hoped that the discussion of key concepts in the book, as it relates to and intersects with the lived experiences of “subordinate castes” in the United States, will provide participants an alternate lens for anti- racist and social justice work at their respective campuses. Dr. Nina Lanza is the Team Lead for Space and Planetary Exploration at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She is on the science teams for the ChemCam instrument on the NASA Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity) rover and the SuperCam instrument on the upcoming NASA Mars 2020 rover. She started at Los Alamos as a post-baccalaureate student and continued at the laboratory as a graduate student and postdoc before becoming staff in 2014. The annual Students’ Show, Adaptive Vision II, opens on Thursday May 13, 5:30 p.m. The exhibition includes works from across all the Fine Arts disciplines, presented in a 3D environment that visitors can “walk” around, viewing the works and clicking on them for more information.
