Cypress College offers a variety of foreign language courses, including Chinese. Learning Chinese can be a great way to expand your horizons and gain new insights into a fascinating culture. Cypress College’s Chinese courses are designed to help students acquire proficiency in the language and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture and people.

Cypress College’s Foreign Language Department offers courses in Chinese at all levels, from beginning to advanced. The courses are transferable to UC/CSU, AA, GE, and fulfill Chinese major and minor lower-division requirements. The faculty is dedicated to helping students acquire proficiency in foreign languages and enhance their understanding of other cultures and people.

Cypress College Chinese Program offers these courses and the prerequisites:

  • CHIN 100 C Beginning Spoken Chinese, 3 Units, Pass/No Pass/Letter Grade Option. (CSU, AA GE)
  • CHIN 101 C Elementary Chinese-Mandarin I, 5 Units, Pass/No Pass/Letter Grade Option. (UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU GE)
  • CHIN 102 C Elementary Chinese-Mandarin II, 5 Units, Prerequisite(s): CHIN 101 C or one year of high school Chinese with a grade of C or better. Pass/No Pass/Letter Grade Option. (UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC)
  • CHIN 203 C Intermediate Chinese-Mandarin lll, 5 Units, Prerequisite(s): CHIN 102 C with a grade of C or better or two years of high school Chinese with a grade of C or better. Pass/No Pass/Letter Grade Option. (UC/CSU, AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC)
  • CHIN 204 C Intermediate Chinese-Mandarin IV, 4 Units, Prerequisite(s): CHIN 203 C with a grade of C or better. Pass/No Pass or Letter Grade Option. (CSU/UC, AA GE, CSU GE, IGETC)

Cypress College Chinese Program offers the dual enrollment program with Oxford Academy.

Cypress College partners with Oxford Academy to offer high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while attending high school. Students enrolled in FREE dual enrollment courses earn credit for college classes that may be eligible to transfer to a CSU or UC institution.

All pathway classes have limitations on seat capacity. The courses are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until all seats are filled.

As a reminder, Dual Enrollment is year-round, and students have multiple opportunities to take classes during the fall, spring, and summer terms.
